Tales of a Solitary Soul

So the editorial was not published but the Prime Minister’s office sent a response:

Dear Mr. Ahmed:

On behalf of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, I would like to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail.Thank you for writing to the Prime Minister. You may be assured that your comments have been carefully reviewed and are appreciated.

Now this can’t be an automated response because they tend to come in a matter of hours if not minutes (this arrived after 4 days). Unless they reply to every email they receive, a response indicates that they are taking this matter seriously.

Why did a Fin, a Canadian, an Australian, and a Chinese get together in a UN peacekeeping post?
To serve as Israeli target practice.

OK, so that was a bad joke but how blind do you have to be to not see the letters UN written all over the building. The normally docile Fins are furious and demand an apology from Israel while Stephen Harper faults the dead Canadian for being in the post at the time of the attack. Clearly, Canada is beginning to show unconditional support for Israel like the US.

Number of people in anti-war rally in support of Lebanon: 300
Amount of money raised: unknown
Number of people in rally supporting Israel: 8,000
Amount of money raised in fifteen minutes: $6 million!
Realizing how this comparison serves as a microcosm for how one-sided the conflict is: PRICELESS

Assalaamu 3alaikum,

I was talking to a collegue of mine at work today about the palestinian/isralei conflict , and he summed it up as follows:

"Both sides are religous and are "ardently devout" about their causes. As such they keep on fighting till the end. On the other hand, you have the secular community [he meant here the christians and the rest of the world] who just want just want the conflict to end and want both sides to reach a compromise no matter how just or unjust the compromise may be".

I disagree with many aspects of his statement, (especially the generality of it). But reflecting on his statement and the numbers that you just gave, sadly it seems that one side is more "faithful" in its beliefs than the other side, and as such, that side is more willing to strive for its cause. And unfortunately, it is this "faithful" side - the one that promotes its cause and works hard for it - that the "secular community" is and will keep on supporting.

You say the conflict is "biased", and I agree. But it could be totally biased in our favour. Let's examine the factors for and against the ummah:

1) Our own selves, our desires, the Shaytaan, the rest of the world are against us

2) The Shaytaan and the rest of the world with them (our aggressors).

3) Allah promised to be in our aid if we strive for his sake.

See we have Allah on one hand, and the rest of the world on the other. You know who will be the victor. Too bad are not taking Allah as an ally, eh? Very bad strategy on our part ...

This is what happens when an Ummah is so preaccupied with the Dunya to an extent that it no longer cares to strive and work for the deen. Things will improve inshallah. Ya rabb.

Please keep me in your du'a.

Assalamu 3alaikum.
My guess is that he actually read the email (in case there was anything seriously important in it) and then copied and pasted his standard reply comment and fired off the email.

Doesn't necessarily mean that they took it seriously or anything. Not hating on you or anything. Kudos to you for sending the email. Letters and emails can be an effective grassroots way of propagating your cause.
That's what I thought too. They show support instantly while we just sit and talk (myself included).
