Tales of a Solitary Soul

I imagined securing an overseas volunteer position should be piece of cake, considering I will be paying for my own airfare and accommodation. It probably would have been easier to get a paid job..

Well, the hunt continues but with very little success for now. Let's see where this road leads to.

have you tried the UN? usually with a degree, you could volunteer with your educational skills, ie engineering projects and things like that. also helps if you already have some work experience.
My friend gave me the link to your post...
One organisation that I would strongly recommend is EWB- Engineers without Border- www.ewb.ca. When I was @ UofT, I volunteered with them for a couple of years, and then served as VP PR- I didn't go overseas with them, but I worked closely with all those who went overseas. As an organisation, they're very focussed on your personal development as well, and they give you a lot of support. As a non-Muslim organisation, they by far, have excellent programs and arrangements and consist of highly motivated individuals who will not fail to inspire you. I'm not sure where in Canada you live, but they have chapters across Canada.

Also, ICNA Relief has been setting up many good projects in Pakistan- I knew the president when I was in Toronto, and he's very interested in getting the youth out to help out in such causes. He's often travelling back and forth between Canada and Pakistan.. I'm not sure of his current whereabouts, but if you email me: humairah.irfan@gmail.com I can get you in touch with him inshallah.
